Maldini's Son Joins Atalanta
Italian footballer Daniel Maldini, son of Paolo Maldini and grandson of Cesare Maldini, both legends of AC Milan, was officially announced this Saturday as a new player for Atalanta.
"Atalanta is pleased to announce the permanent signing of Daniel Maldini, a 23-year-old forward from Monza," the Bergamo club stated in an official release.
The transfer deal is worth approximately €13 million, with AC Milan retaining 50% of the sale (around €6.5 million) due to a resale clause included in his previous transfer.
Born in Milan in 2001, Daniel Maldini developed through the youth ranks of AC Milan, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather. At just 18, he made his Serie A debut and became part of the first team during the 2020-2021 season. A year later, in the 2021-22 campaign, he made 13 appearances, playing 8 matches in Serie A, 3 in the Champions League, and 2 in the Coppa Italia.
Loan Spells Before Atalanta
After winning the Scudetto with AC Milan, Maldini was loaned to Spezia, where he played the 2022-23 season, scoring 3 goals (2 in Serie A and 1 in the Coppa Italia). He then spent the first half of the 2023-24 season with Empoli before moving to Monza in January 2024. With the Lombardy side, he played 18 Serie A games, scoring 4 goals and providing 1 assist.
In the first half of this season with Monza, he accumulated 20 Serie A matches, with 3 goals and 1 assist, plus one appearance in the Coppa Italia.
On October 14, 2024, Daniel Maldini made his debut for Italy’s senior national team, playing in a 4-1 victory over Israel in the Nations League, continuing the legacy of his legendary surname in world football.
