'Protagonists' Inter will give everything in fight for silverware, says Inzaghi
Simone Inzaghi remains confident Inter will keep fighting for silverware as they aim to keep Napoli in their sights in the Scudetto race.
Simone Inzaghi says Inter will "give everything" as they continue to fight on every front for trophies this season.
Inter currently sit second in the Serie A table, two points behind Napoli, and would temporarily move top if they beat Genoa on Saturday, with the Partenopei not playing until Sunday.
The Nerazzurri will feel confident of doing so as well, having won their last 10 league home games against Genoa by an aggregate score of 27-2. The last time Genoa won this fixture away from home was in March 1994 (3-1).
Inzaghi's side are also through to the Coppa Italia quarter-finals, where they will face Lazio on Tuesday, as well as the last 16 of the Champions League, in which they face Feyenoord, who knocked out rivals AC Milan in the play-offs.
Inter have won their last three Serie A home games but have lost two of their last three league matches, as many defeats as they have had in their last 54.
Despite not sitting at the summit, Inter are the current favourites to retain the Scudetto, with the Opta supercomputer giving them a 53.9% chance to Napoli's 41.3%.
And Inzaghi reiterated their ambition to win more silverware this term.
"That [winning trophies] is the wish," said Inzaghi. "What I can guarantee is that we will give everything, as always, to fight on every front.
"We like to play as protagonists, and we will continue to do so until the end."
Inter face the league leaders on March 1 in what is already being billed as a title decider. The pair drew their last meeting 1-1 back in November, but Inzaghi does not believe their title chances rest on next weekend's result.
"It will be a very important match, but talking about a decisive challenge is premature, there are still twelve games to go," Inzaghi added.
"It will certainly count a lot for both teams, but I wouldn't reduce everything to a confrontation between coaches: it will be a match between two teams that are doing very well. And attention also to Atalanta and the other teams who, thanks to the winter market, are catching up."
Inter also issued an update on Yann Sommer, who suffered a fractured thumb in training on Thursday.
The goalkeeper has undergone successful surgery but is reportedly expected to be out for a month, with Josep Martinez set to replace him against Genoa.
