José Mourinho, head coach of Fenerbahçe, has been handed a four-match suspension and a €42,500 fine for his "unsportsmanlike conduct" during the 0-0 draw against Galatasaray, the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) announced on Friday.

The Punishment Committee (PFDK) imposed the sanction due to Mourinho’s "offensive remarks" in the post-match press conference following the highly controversial Istanbul derby.

A Historic and Controversial Derby

The Galatasaray vs. Fenerbahçe clash was historical, as it marked the first time in 55 years that a foreign referee officiated a Turkish Süper Lig match. Slovenian referee Slavko Vincic was appointed after ongoing complaints about domestic refereeing, a request made by Fenerbahçe.

After the match, Mourinho entered the referee's locker room to "congratulate" him, a move that sparked further controversy among rival supporters and media.

The Galatasaray board, currently leading the league with 64 points, has announced that they will file an official complaint with UEFA and FIFA, accusing Mourinho of racism for allegedly stating that their players "jumped like monkeys" on the bench while protesting a refereeing decision.

Galatasaray’s manager, Okan Buruk, did not hold back when addressing Mourinho in the press conference:

"The crybaby talked too much. You know, he is famous for complaining. He cried here for a long time. He went inside, entered the referee’s locker room, and kept crying. Let him keep crying."
