Icardi to Undergo Surgery in Argentina After Serious Injury
Argentine forward Mauro Icardi, currently playing for Galatasaray, will undergo surgery next Monday in Argentina due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament sustained on November 7 during a Europa League match against Tottenham. The club's doctor, Yener Ince, confirmed the decision in a press conference on Wednesday.
A season-ending injury
The severe injury to his right knee will keep Icardi off the pitch for the remainder of the season. According to Ince, the player has spent three weeks in Argentina undergoing preparatory treatment ahead of the surgery. "We decided to perform the operation there to avoid complications during his recovery," said the doctor, adding that the procedure will take place on December 2.
Argentina chosen for his rehabilitation
The decision to operate on Icardi in Argentina was influenced by both personal and practical reasons. The summer climate is seen as beneficial for his recovery, and it prevents the need for additional travel after the surgery. Although specific details about the chosen clinic were not disclosed, Ince confirmed that all medical consultations had been completed.
More setbacks for Galatasaray
Icardi's absence is not the only blow for Galatasaray, the current leader of the Turkish Super League. The team is also dealing with injuries to Ismail Jacobs and Kaan Ayhan, who are both expected to return at the end of December. Despite these challenges, the club maintains a five-point lead over their closest rival, Fenerbahçe.
