Courtois Reveals Why Real Madrid Came Back Against Manchester City in the Champions League
Thibaut Courtois, the Belgian goalkeeper of Real Madrid, explained the key to his team's comeback against Manchester City (2-3) in the UEFA Champions League, emphasizing confidence and belief in victory as fundamental factors.
The Importance of Mentality and Confidence
Courtois highlighted that, despite conceding two goals, the team never lost faith. "It’s an offensive team. It’s better to win even if we concede goals. We played well, conceded two goals with a bit of bad luck. Their first play was good, and the second was a penalty. We dominated the game and deserved to win. Once we were at 2-1, the team believed in the draw, and then the 2-3 came because we believed and felt stronger than them," he said in an interview with Movistar+.
Tactical Keys to the Victory
The goalkeeper also discussed the importance of high pressure, which was crucial in turning the game around. "It’s a team that handles the ball well, and we shouldn’t be afraid to press, but in an organized way. We did that better in the second half. That’s what changed the game," explained Courtois, who also added that the team can't relax in their pursuit of the next phase: "We have to keep going like that to win next week in a tough match. We can’t think that we’re already in the next phase."
