This is What Flick Said about Barcelona's Epic Comeback against Benfica
FC Barcelona coach Hansi Flick expressed his satisfaction after the team’s epic comeback against Benfica in the Champions League. In a match played in Lisbon, Barça managed to overturn a 4-2 deficit and secured a 4-5 victory with a stoppage-time goal from Raphinha. "We came back; this is football, and that’s why we love it," the German coach declared.
Flick described the match as "very crazy" and admitted that he had never experienced such a remarkable comeback in his managerial career. "I think not, I’ve never experienced a comeback like this," he stated, visibly moved by the feat achieved by his team at the challenging Estádio da Luz.
The coach analyzed the team’s performance, noting that the first half was not up to par due to Benfica’s "good transitions," which forced Barcelona to defend very deep. However, Flick assured that the team significantly improved in the second half, partly due to the substitutions made. "In the second half, we were much better, and the substitutions helped us," the coach explained.
One of the most talked-about moments of the match was the mistake by Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny, who made errors that contributed to some of Benfica’s goals. Flick, far from blaming him, defended the goalkeeper: "It’s normal; what player doesn’t make mistakes? It’s not about one player; it’s the whole team. We win together, and we lose together," emphasized the German.
With this historic comeback, FC Barcelona secured a valuable victory that brings them closer to the Champions League Round of 16. Flick concluded his remarks by praising the team’s attitude and reaffirming his commitment to collective effort. "This is football, and that’s why we love it," the coach concluded.
