Ajax Defeats Osimhen's Galatasaray and Advances in The Europa League
Ajax secured a 2-1 victory over Galatasaray in the eighth and final matchday of the UEFA Europa League group stage. The game, held at the Johan Cruijff Arena, saw the Dutch side prevail with goals from Bertrand Traoré and Kian Fitz-Jim, while Victor Osimhen scored a late consolation goal for the Turkish team.
With this result, Galatasaray finished 14th in the group stage, securing a spot in the play-off round. In this stage, Okan Buruk’s team will face either Midtjylland from Denmark or AZ Alkmaar from the Netherlands, with hopes of progressing further in the tournament.
Should they win the play-off, Galatasaray will face a tough opponent in the Round of 16: either Manchester United or Tottenham, both from the Premier League. These teams present a significant challenge, but the Turkish club will be eager to pull off an upset and advance to the later rounds.
The Round of 16 draw will take place on January 31 at 3:00 PM (local time), with the play-off matches scheduled for February 13 and 20, 2025. If Galatasaray advances, they will play the Round of 16 on March 6 and 13, while the quarter-finals and semi-finals are set for April and May, respectively.
Meanwhile, Ajax showcased their strength at home and continues their Europa League journey with high ambitions. With a solid performance, the Dutch team reaffirmed its status as a contender and looks forward to progressing further in the competition.
