Mourinho’s Fenerbahçe Ends Europa League Slump
A late goal by Moroccan striker Youssef En Nesyri, five minutes before the final whistle, lifted Fenerbahce out of its slump with a 2-1 victory over Slavia Prague at the Fortuna Arena, reigniting the European aspirations of José Mourinho’s team.
A Much-Needed Win for Fenerbahce
The Istanbul side had been winless in three matches since their opening-round victory against St. Gilloise. Two draws (against Twente and Manchester United) and a defeat to AZ Alkmaar had dropped them to 22nd place. This win, however, propels them to 15th, breaking their negative streak.
The Match: From Setback to Comeback
The match started with an early blow from Slavia, as Tomas Chroy opened the scoring in the 7th minute following an assist from Lukas Provoc. However, Fenerbahce responded in the 30th minute with a stunning goal by Bosnian forward Edin Dzeko, set up by Sebastian Szymanski, to level the game.
The comeback was sealed in the dying minutes by En Nesyri. A cross into the box found Dusan Tadic, who set up the former Sevilla player to beat goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky, securing all three points for Mourinho's side.
Slavia Prague in Freefall
This defeat marks the third consecutive loss for Slavia Prague, leaving them outside the top 24 in the standings.
This victory not only ends Fenerbahce's winless streak but also boosts their position in the fight to stay among Europe’s elite football teams.
