Turkey Raises Alarms After Injury to Key Player
Turkey's national team goalkeeper, Dogan Alemdar, has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear in his left knee, as confirmed by medical tests. This injury sidelines him from Euro 2024, leading head coach Vincenzo Montella to call up Muhammed Şengezer as his replacement.
Alemdar, who plays for Troyes, sustained the injury during a training session on Sunday night. Following a series of tests on Monday, the diagnosis was confirmed, according to the Turkish Football Federation.
"It was decided that our national goalkeeper would leave the camp to proceed to the next stage of his treatment. Muhammed Şengezer, from Başakşehir, was called up to join the national team," the federation announced.
The 21-year-old Alemdar, who was a substitute in Turkey's first two matches of Euro 2024, has been capped twice for the national team out of eight call-ups. Şengezer, 27, has been called up three times but has yet to make an appearance for Turkey, with his last call-up being in March.
