"We Will Play for You": Luis de la Fuente’s Message to DANA Victims
The Spain coach announced the squad for the UEFA Nations League, but did so in a different and emotional way.
Luis de la Fuente, the Spanish national team coach, expressed a message of solidarity and full support to the families of those who lost their lives due to the recent DANA storms, as well as to all affected families. He assured that Spain will dedicate their upcoming matches, against Denmark and Switzerland in the Nations League, to them and promised future support to help "overcome this terrible situation."
The announcement of Spain's squad list took on a different format this time, as De la Fuente chose not to reveal the player names directly, instead delivering a heartfelt message of solidarity for all those impacted by the storms.
"In these difficult times for our country, the members of the national team cannot forget, even for a second, all those families who have lost loved ones, whose homes have been destroyed, and whose businesses have been ruined," he said.
"For all of them, we extend our support and solidarity to help overcome these challenging times. I trust that soon, together, we can help you emerge from this terrible situation," he added.
De la Fuente also pledged the support of the football community, revealing that the Spanish Federation will soon announce an initiative to bring a national team match to Valencia as a gesture of support.
"I also want to remember the thousands of children and young people who cannot enjoy their passion right now. All the football fields in the area have been devastated by this unfortunate storm. I am confident that the world of football will not let you down, and soon you will be able to enjoy this wonderful sport in all your towns," he shared.
“For all these reasons, in our upcoming matches in Copenhagen against Denmark and in Tenerife against Switzerland, we will play with all our heart and dedicate our efforts to all of you,” he concluded.
