Harry Kane Chases Another Historic England Record

  • The England captain is one appearance away from matching a historic record, and Thomas Tuchel has explained what drives his constant pursuit of new milestones.

Kane Is on the Brink of History

Harry Kane can add another remarkable milestone to his career with England. If he features against Czechia at Wembley, he will reach 125 international appearances and move level with Peter Shilton as the joint most-capped player in the history of the England men’s national team.

The striker also arrives in outstanding form. He scored twice in the 7-0 win over Croatia, taking his England tally to 89 goals and extending his record as the Three Lions’ all-time leading scorer.

But for Thomas Tuchel, the numbers only tell part of the story. The England boss believes Kane has a particular mentality that constantly pushes him toward the next record.

“That’s How Harry Is Built”

Tuchel explained that the world’s best strikers are not motivated solely by winning matches. They also need individual targets that keep pushing them further.

“I think all these number nines in the world, no matter in which league or in youth football, they are built a little bit differently,” Tuchel explained. “They not only do it so that their team wins, but they also do it for themselves, they do it for the records.”

*“How many can I score, how many can I assist, who is the best scorer in the league, who do I have to overtake, where is the next record? You will not find any goalscorer of this calibre who has not these individual goals set up and pushing him to the limit. So that is what drives him. That’s how Harry is built.”

Kane Found Another Level at Bayern

The ambition highlighted by Tuchel has also carried over to Bayern Munich, where Kane has continued piling up goals and records since arriving in 2023.

In September, he reached 100 goals in 98 appearances, and Tuchel believes his time in Germany has taken his game to another level.

“I’m not sure if I have any more words, because I feel like he scores all the time, he plays fantastic and he’s in the shortlist for the Ballon d’Or,” Tuchel said. “Everything he does, he does it on the highest level, and he does it consecutively.”

For Tuchel, Kane’s development goes beyond finishing: “Since he takes this major role for Bayern Munich, he found a new level, and it’s on and off the pitch highest level.”

The Next Record Is Right in Front of Him

Kane will now have the chance to write another chapter in his England career against Czechia. Matching Shilton would add the appearance record to an international career in which he already owns the country’s biggest goalscoring mark.

England enter the match with six points in Nations League Group A3, three behind Spain, giving the game significance beyond Kane’s individual milestone.

And that fits perfectly with Tuchel’s description of his captain: Kane will be chasing victory for England while knowing exactly which record is next within his reach.

What Harry Kane Is Chasing

  • Kane can reach 125 appearances for England and match Peter Shilton’s record.
  • He already has 89 goals for the Three Lions.
  • Tuchel says Kane’s constant pursuit of individual targets is a major part of what keeps him performing at the highest level.
