Djokovic Compares Alcaraz to Nadal
Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic, currently ranked seventh in the world, praised Spanish player Carlos Alcaraz, the ATP circuit's third-ranked player, stating that his energy and intensity remind him of the legendary Rafa Nadal, another Spaniard and former world number one.
"A Complete Player With Amazing Versatility"
In a press conference following his debut at the Australian Open, where he defeated American Nishesh Basavareddy, the 24-time Grand Slam champion did not hold back in complimenting Alcaraz. "He’s a very complete player who can hurt you from anywhere and on any surface because his versatility is amazing," said the Serbian player.
Djokovic, aiming for his eleventh title in the first Grand Slam of the year, emphasized Alcaraz's energy and intensity on the court, comparing it to the style of Nadal. "He brings a lot of energy and intensity to the game," the Serbian added.
Praises Alcaraz's Maturity
The 36-year-old champion also highlighted the precocious talent and mental toughness of Alcaraz: "For him to reach this level of tennis at such a young age shows his mental maturity, even on the court, which is impressive and makes him one of the best in the world. He’s winning Grand Slams every year now, and I’m sure he won’t stop here."
A potential showdown between Djokovic and Alcaraz could happen in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open if both players advance to that stage.
