Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova has announced that she plans to return to the WTA Tour in February after a 15-month maternity leave. 

Kvitova, who won her two grand slam titles at the All England Club in 2011 and 2014, posted a video to Instagram confirming her return to the sport. 

The 34-year-old is planning to make her return at the WTA 250 ATX Open in Austin later this month, and then the WTA 1000 events in Indian Wells and Miami.

Kvitova last played at the China Open in October 2023 when she was beaten by Liudmila Samsonova in the round of 32 before announcing her pregnancy on New Year's Day. 

"After fifteen months being away from tennis and having my baby boy Petr, I'm coming back to the tennis circuit," Kvitova said in a video message on Instagram.

"I really miss tennis, and miss competing, so I’m really looking forward to being back."

"I can’t wait to see all my fans, all around the world. "Thank you very much for supporting me. It will be a nice journey, and I can’t wait."

Before her break, Kvitova finished 2023 as the world number 14, and won two titles, in Miami and Berlin, to bring her career haul of WTA trophies to 31.
