Neuer to return for Bayern against Gladbach
Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany has confirmed that Manuel Neuer will be back in goal upon its return to Bundesliga action against Borussia Monchengladbach this weekend.
Kompany also revealed that Daniel Peretz, who deputised for Neuer during his injury absence, would be missing after picking up an ankle issue in training.
Neuer has been sidelined with a broken rib after colliding with Jeremie Frimpong during Bayern's 1-0 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen in the DFB-Pokal last month.
The challenge also saw him earn his first career red card, with the subsequent injury seeing the Germany international miss four games across all competitions.
But ahead of facing Moenchengladbach, Kompany confirmed that Neuer would return to the starting line-up to face Gerardo Seoane's side.
"There is good luck that Manuel is back with us and bad luck that Daniel will be missing for some weeks," Kompany said. "We don't know yet for exactly how long.
"Hopefully at the end of the month or start of next month, Daniel will be back."
Bayern returns from the three-week winter break four points clear at the top of the Bundesliga, with Xabi Alonso's Leverkusen four points behind.
But Bayern faces a stern test at Borussia-Park, a ground it has struggled at in recent seasons, Gladbach winning five of its past nine Bundesliga home matches against Bayern.
Since the start of the 2015-2016 season, no other team has celebrated as many home wins against Bayern in the top-flight as Gladbach.
Kompany has also been dealt a blow ahead with Jamal Musiala expected to miss the game through illness.
Musiala has been involved in 20 goals in 22 appearances across all competitions this season, already equalling the total he managed for the entire 2023-2024 campaign.
However, against no other club has Musiala played as many matches in all competitions without scoring a goal as he has against Monchengladbach (six).
"I have said it before that Jamal cannot be replaced one-for-one," Kompany said. "But we will not change what we have planned for this game.
"We go into the game to win it. But Jamal will be back very soon.
"It is normal not to have all players available at all times, so we need to solve it differently, and we have done that season."
