Emery confident as Rashford speculation mounts
Aston Villa is expecting to sign several players before the transfer window closes according to coach Unai Emery.
However, the Spaniard would not be drawn on commenting on the status of a loan move for Manchester United's Marcus Rashford.
England international Rashford is reportedly close to joining Villa for the rest of the season.
While Emery would not confirm if a deal for Rashford is in the works, he did reiterate his desire to see more players sign for Villa after the departures of Diego Carlos, Emiliano Buendia and Jhon Duran, who had scored seven Premier League goals in just 626 minutes of action before he completed a move to Al-Nassr this week.
"We are working to try and get some players to join us on Sunday or Monday," Emery said after a 2-0 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers, in which Villa lost Ollie Watkins to injury.
"It is not easy because we don’t want to replace with players that will not help us like I want.
"We are being very demanding [but] we have to be intelligent.
"To sign a striker is not easy. We have versatile players and usually Watkins has been consistent, playing matches.
"He is strong at recovering and playing matches in a row during a week, two or three matches.
"Today he was injured, hopefully it is minor. The idea is to replace Duran with another striker. If we can find a player to help us at the level we want, we will do, but we have versatile players.
"We have to compete and try to get the level we want with the players we have and I think we will be adding two or three more players."
Expanding on Watkins's injury, Emery said: "I changed him because he was feeling a little bit of pain in his muscle. Hopefully, we will test him and check him and it is not going to be something [serious]."
