Travis Kelce Matches $100,000 Donation Made by Taylor Swift to Shooting Victims
American football player Travis Kelce matched the $100,000 donation made by his girlfriend, singer Taylor Swift, to the victims of the shooting that occurred on Wednesday during the parade celebration of the Kansas City Chiefs' Super Bowl victory.
Kelce, a star for the Chiefs, made the donation through his foundation supporting the fundraising campaign on the GoFundMe website, coordinated by the professional football league team and the United Way organization.
In this way, the player matched the amount that pop star Taylor Swift also donated today, directing the contribution to the family of Elizabeth López-Galvan, a Mexican-origin radio DJ and the sole fatality of the incident.
The shooting also left 22 people injured, including López-Galvan's two children.
Two minors have been charged in connection with the shooting and are detained in a juvenile detention center on charges related to the possession and use of firearms and resisting arrest, authorities reported on Friday.
The shooting occurred on Wednesday afternoon in Kansas City as the local team, the Kansas City Chiefs, was concluding its victory parade for the Super Bowl against the San Francisco 49ers.
The city's police chief, Stacey Graves, stated that the incident resulted from "a dispute between several individuals" and added that "preliminary findings from the investigation have shown no links to terrorism or violent extremists."
