Netflix Claims 60 Million Households Watched the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson Fight
Netflix announced this Saturday that 60 million households worldwide tuned in Friday night to watch the boxing match between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson.
"It was a historic night for Netflix. Additional audience information, including the total number of viewers, will be shared early next week," the platform stated in a press release.
Netflix reported a peak of "65 million simultaneous streams" during the fight, which Paul won by unanimous decision against Tyson.
Additionally, 50 million households worldwide watched the undercard bout, where Irish fighter Katie Taylor defeated Puerto Rican Amanda Serrano by unanimous decision.
In the United States, Netflix noted that Joe Hand Promotions sold the boxing event to over 6,000 bars and restaurants, setting a new record for a fight in the company’s more than 50-year history.
The match between Paul and Tyson marks Netflix's biggest bet yet on live sports events, a strategy the platform plans to expand with two NFL games scheduled for a special Christmas broadcast.
However, numerous users took to social media on Friday night to express their frustration over image quality and connection issues that hindered their experience of the fight.
