New Faces and Changes in F1 for 2025
The signing of Lewis Hamilton by Ferrari has been the major news in F1 ahead of the 2025 season. The seven-time world champion will leave Mercedes to join the Italian team, where he will replace Carlos Sainz. This move shocked many, especially Sainz, who, despite his successes, including two wins (Australia and Mexico), will now have to look for his future at Williams, where he'll partner with Alex Albon. This marks the end of Sainz's time at Ferrari, a team where he achieved 25 podiums, six poles, and three fastest laps.
Sainz, who expressed being "proud" of his final year with Ferrari, joins Williams, now sponsored by Banco Santander. On the other hand, Hamilton leaves Mercedes, where he won six of his seven titles, to join a team seeking new challenges. Andrea Kimi Antonelli (18 years old) will take his place at Mercedes, although his debut at Monza showed that he still lacks experience.
Other Moves and Uncertain Futures
The 2025 grid will bring more changes. Sergio Pérez, who hasn't had a standout season with Red Bull, could be on shaky ground. Although he has a contract with the team, the Mexican admitted he's unsure what will happen next year after a difficult season, where his relationship with Max Verstappen has been under pressure.
On the other hand, McLaren will maintain its lineup, with Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri as teammates. Norris, who finished second in the championship, will continue his upward trajectory alongside the Australian, who finished fourth.
Veteran Fernando Alonso will stay with Aston Martin, forming a duo with Lance Stroll. Despite a less-than-remarkable season for the team, the 43-year-old Spaniard continues to show his talent.
There will be significant changes at Alpine. Esteban Ocon will move to Haas, replacing Nico Hülkenberg, who is headed to Sauber. Jack Doohan, the son of legendary Mick Doohan, will take Ocon's place at Alpine. Additionally, young Oliver Bearman will be Ocon's teammate at Haas.
Fresh Faces at Historic Teams
The Sauber team will also undergo changes. Nico Hülkenberg will be replaced by young Gabriel Bortoleto, who won the F2 championship this Sunday. Valtteri Bottas and Guanyu Zhou, the current drivers for Sauber, raced their final race in Abu Dhabi. Bortoleto will make his debut alongside Hülkenberg in 2025.
Sauber will be fully revamped with a young and promising duo, while Alfa Romeo (now Sauber) continues its generational shift. These moves highlight that 2025 will be a transitional year, with new talents and team changes that could shake up the F1 dynamics.
