Red Bull’s Director Calls Checo Pérez's Season “Horrible”
Christian Horner, Red Bull's British team boss, said he agrees with Mexican driver Sergio ‘Checo’ Pérez's view on his 2024 Formula 1 season, which Checo himself called “terrible.”
“Checo summed it up perfectly. It’s been a rough year for him; he started strong, but then he struggled to perform, and his high points have been few and far between,” Horner explained during the press conference before the Mexican Grand Prix.
Horner mentioned that even though Checo, currently eighth in the world championship standings with five races left, hasn’t had the best year, he’ll still be Red Bull’s driver next season.
“He’s our guy and is signed through 2025. Checo is competitive, he’s hungry, and he’s not happy with how things are going. As a team, we’re doing what we can to support him, and this weekend is huge for him, with tons of support from his home crowd.”
Horner added that, along with Checo’s proven skills, he’s confident the recent improvements made to his car will help him break a streak of 14 races without a podium finish.
“We know what he’s capable of, and we’re hoping that the upgrades to his car give him the confidence to put in the kind of performances we know he can,” Horner said.
