Celebrated Like Cristiano Ronaldo, Mentioned Him on Social Media, and Got a Response: "I’m Going to Faint"
Portuguese cyclist Rui Oliveira won the gold medal and celebrated on the podium like his idol Cristiano Ronaldo, who sent him a message through social media.
Cristiano Ronaldo didn't compete in the Paris 2024 Olympics, but his iconic celebration made its presence felt.
When Portuguese cyclists Iúri Leitão and Rui Oliveira stepped up to receive their gold medals—the first ever for Portugal in track cycling—they celebrated with Cristiano’s famous "SIIUUU" gesture.
The moment was captured and shared on social media, with Rui Oliveira asking for a bit of internet magic:
"Get this to my idol Cristiano," he wrote, tagging CR7 in the post.
Soon after, Cristiano responded to Rui’s message: "Congratulations, Rui!" the Portuguese footballer wrote, adding a gold medal emoji and a clapping emoji.
This response was a dream come true for the Portuguese cyclist, who replied with another message expressing his excitement:
"I'm going to faint, THANK YOU."
Cristiano Ronaldo’s gesture towards the Portuguese medalists was heartwarming, and they weren’t the only ones celebrating like him. His influence is so widespread that his celebration has become universal.
