Paris 2024 Passes the Torch to Los Angeles 2028
The time has come for the next Olympic city: Los Angeles, which will host the 2028 Games following the Paris 2024 edition. The French capital passed the Olympic flag and gave a glimpse of what to expect in four years.
In a nod to Hollywood, actor Tom Cruise took center stage, recreating the action film sequences for which he is famous. Suspended from the ceiling by a cable and harness, Cruise descended to the stage, where he received the Olympic flag from American gymnast Simone Biles. He then mounted a motorcycle, symbolically riding off to the California metropolis.
The ceremony continued with a live broadcast from Los Angeles beaches, featuring a musical celebration with performances by major California-based stars, including Red Hot Chili Peppers, Snoop Dogg, and Billie Eilish.
As the Olympic flame, which had traveled from the Tuileries, was extinguished, IOC President Thomas Bach, "with a heart full of emotion," officially closed the Paris 2024 Games and invited the Olympic world to gather in Los Angeles in four years.
