How Tunisia Arrive

The Eagles of Carthage opened their qualifying campaign with a 1-1 draw against Uganda on September 24, also at the Stade Olympique Hammadi Agrebi.

Adam Arous gave Tunisia the lead after 12 minutes, but the hosts were unable to protect their advantage. Rogers Mato equalized for Uganda in the 68th minute, and neither side could find a winner.

The match also marked the beginning of a new stage under Mouine Chaâbani, who made significant changes to the national-team squad following the 2026 World Cup. Experienced internationals Ferjani Sassi, Aïssa Laïdouni and Ali Maâloul all returned for the opening qualifying window.

How Botswana Arrive

Botswana also collected one point from its opening match, although the Zebras came extremely close to leaving with all three. They drew 2-2 away against Libya after holding a two-goal advantage late in the game.

Tumisang Orebonye was the standout performer for Botswana, scoring twice in the first half. The forward opened the scoring in the 30th minute and struck again in the 42nd to give his team a 2-0 lead.

Libya, however, produced a dramatic late comeback. Maruwan Alhibeeshi scored in the 87th minute before Ezoo El Mariamy converted a penalty in the sixth minute of stoppage time to secure a 2-2 draw.

A Direct Battle Between Two Teams Level in Group H

Tunisia and Botswana both enter Matchday 2 with one point. Group H also contains Uganda and Libya, who also drew their opening matches and will meet on September 29.

There is an important qualification wrinkle in this section: Uganda has already secured its place at AFCON 2027 as one of the tournament’s three co-hosts. As a result, in addition to Uganda, only the highest-placed team among Tunisia, Botswana and Libya will qualify from Group H.
