Colapinto Attracts Interest from Multiple F1 Constructors
Williams team director James Vowles confirmed on Friday in Brazil that the team is "exploring options with several teams interested" in bringing Argentine driver Franco Colapinto on board for the next Formula One season.
"We have been exploring possibilities with several teams that are interested at this point," Vowles shared, "but it would be a mistake to speculate; there’s really nothing concrete to announce beyond that," he noted during a press conference at the Interlagos circuit, where the São Paulo Grand Prix is underway.
Vowles described Colapinto as "exceptional," noting that the 21-year-old driver has reignited Argentina's passion for Formula One with just five races in motorsport's elite category.
"He's doing an outstanding job on track, and as I’ve said from the start, earn your spot, and the results will follow," Vowles commented.
However, he stressed the importance of "responsibility" when discussing the young driver’s future.
"My responsibility is to ensure we’re doing the right thing," Vowles stated.
He added that, while Colapinto has only participated in a handful of F1 races, he should continue his development, noting that significant milestones may be on the horizon.
"He's earning his place. He needs to keep proving himself on the track, but he's shining, and that’s why teams are taking notice," he concluded.
