Lamine Yamal: The Best News for Barcelona Amid the Dani Olmo Storm
Lamine Yamal is in the final stages of his recovery and has already started training with the rest of his teammates. He is expected to return for the Spanish Super Cup.
While young winger Lamine Yamal has resumed group training at the Joan Gamper Sports City, FC Barcelona’s offices remain focused on resolving the registration issues of forwards Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor for the second half of the season.
Both players were removed from Barcelona's squad on January 1 by La Liga, which deemed the club’s documentation on the partial lease of Spotify Camp Nou’s premium boxes—worth approximately $104 million—insufficient. As a result, La Liga does not currently permit Barcelona to operate under the 1:1 financial control rule for the winter transfer window, as the club had intended.
The Catalan club is awaiting international transfers confirming part of the payment for the operation, which are expected to arrive within the coming hours. Should this happen, La Liga may allow Barcelona to include Olmo and Víctor in their plans. For now, both players are training normally in preparation for Saturday’s Copa del Rey opener in Barbastro or, at the very least, for the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia next week.
When Will Lamine Yamal Return?
Lamine Yamal is targeting a return for the Spanish Super Cup. On Thursday, he completed part of the group training session as he nears full recovery from the sprained right ankle he suffered during the La Liga clash against Leganés on December 15.
Héctor Fort, another player on the recovery path, also joined the group training. The fullback had been dealing with muscular discomfort at the end of the year and could receive medical clearance soon.
Today’s session featured the addition of reserve team forward Dani Rodríguez, called up by coach Hansi Flick to strengthen the team’s attacking options. This move reflects concerns that Barcelona’s offensive line could be short-handed in upcoming matches if the registration of Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor remains unresolved.
The squad will train again on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the Sant Joan Despí facilities. Following the session, Flick will hold a press conference ahead of Barcelona’s Copa del Rey debut.
