Genoa Drops Jersey Honoring Boca Juniors' 120th Anniversary
Genoa, a Serie A club, unveiled its fourth kit this Wednesday—a navy blue jersey with a yellow stripe across the center, inspired by the colors of Boca Juniors. The design celebrates the 120th anniversary of the Argentine club, which was founded in 1905 by Genoese immigrants in Buenos Aires.
The jersey sticks to Boca’s iconic color scheme but features Genoa’s crest, showcasing its legendary Griffin, the symbol of Italy’s oldest club. As a special touch, the back of the collar includes the word "ZENEIXI", the Genoese version of "Xeneizes"—a term that originally meant "Genoese" but later became a symbol of Boca Juniors’ identity.
More Than a Jersey, a Cultural Tribute
With this kit, Genoa pays homage to Boca Juniors, one of the world’s most decorated clubs, with whom they share a deep historical connection. For the launch, the Italian club put together a photo and video campaign led by photographer Sam Gregg, capturing the emotional and footballing ties between Genoa and Buenos Aires.
This release isn’t just about football history—it’s also a nod to the waves of migration in the early 20th century when thousands of Genoese people settled in Argentina. Genoa will debut this special fourth kit on March 29, in their Serie A match against Juventus in Turin.
