Real Madrid Confirms the Worst About Dani Carvajal's Injury
Dani Carvajal confirmed on social media that he has a "severe ACL injury" in his right knee, which happened in the closing minutes of Saturday's La Liga match against Villarreal. The club's medical report aligns with this, stating that Carvajal has a "tear of the lateral collateral ligament and a rupture of the popliteal tendon."
"After the tests conducted by Real Madrid's Medical Services, Dani Carvajal has been diagnosed with a torn ACL, a tear of the lateral collateral ligament, and a rupture of the popliteal tendon in his right leg. He will undergo surgery in the coming days," announced the club on their website.
According to club sources, Carvajal will have surgery in about five days when the swelling in the affected areas has subsided.
The recovery time will primarily depend on the ACL tear, as the other injuries are less severe. Recovery from an ACL injury typically ranges between eight to ten months, depending on the case. The medical report provided more details than Carvajal's earlier social media post, where he shared a photo from an ambulance leaving Santiago Bernabéu.
"A severe ACL injury is confirmed, I'll need surgery and will be away from the pitch for a few months," he wrote. "I'm already eager to start my recovery and come back stronger. Thank you all for your messages; I feel very loved," he added.
Carvajal had to leave the field at Santiago Bernabéu on a stretcher, in tears, after injuring himself while trying to kick the ball in a challenge with Yeremy Pino, but he missed and immediately grabbed his right knee as he fell. His teammates quickly called the medical team, concerned about the severity of the injury, and Carvajal left the pitch in stoppage time of the second half on a stretcher, crying and using his shirt to cover his face. This reaction hinted at a serious injury, which was confirmed hours later through his own announcement.
