Tebas Sends Financial Message to Barcelona
Javier Tebas, president of La Liga, acknowledged that Barcelona is increasingly "closer to the 1:1 rule," which allows them to invest in new signings with the same amount of money they earn from selling players. He emphasized that while the club has reduced its wage bill, there is still work to be done.
"Barcelona is getting closer to the 1:1 rule thanks to increased revenues and significant reductions in salary expenses. Last year, their limit was €204 million, and this year it's €426 million. They have done a great job because they have decreased their wage bill and made substantial efforts," Tebas stated.
"They are increasingly understanding how financial fair play works, but they still have some way to go to fix everything. However, a club with their level of revenue is on the right path if they continue to reduce expenses," he added on Thursday at an event explaining the salary cap limits for clubs following the transfer window.
Barcelona has significantly increased its salary cap from the end of the January transfer window this year, rising from €204.161 million to €426.427 million.
The exact amount by which they exceed the 1:1 rule could not be confirmed due to "confidential matters" and to avoid putting the clubs in "financial embarrassment," but it was based on statements by Laporta, who mentioned it was around €60 million.
