Valencia Faces A Multi-Million Challenge To Restore Football Fields Damaged By DANA
The province of Valencia is preparing for a major reconstruction effort after the damage caused by the isolated depression at high levels (DANA), which left 75 football fields affected. Salvador Gomar, president of the Valencian Community Football Federation (FFCV), estimates that the investment required to restore the sports facilities will be around 20 million euros (approximately $21.54 million), with each field's recovery costing about 400,000 euros.
To coordinate this process, Spanish football has created a crisis committee in collaboration with the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), LaLiga, and the Castilla La Mancha Football Federation. Gomar stated that the FFCV has promoted aid and is part of this crisis committee, where an action plan is being defined. However, the initial priority for the municipalities will be the reconstruction of homes and businesses, with the restoration of sports facilities to follow.
According to Gomar, the first days after the DANA were challenging, but since last Monday, the FFCV has worked to send a message of hope, encouraging clubs and fans to look toward an optimistic rebuilding effort. While resources are being managed, it’s expected that several teams will share facilities to meet their schedules.
Solidarity has been remarkable across Spain. Players and clubs from Valencia, Levante, and other regions have mobilized to help in the affected areas. The RFEF has also contributed by sending sportswear to impacted teams, while clubs like Burjassot have offered their fields for training sessions. Additionally, some sports facilities in affected areas are being used as aid points, serving as field hospitals and food collection centers.
