Tough Blow for Real Madrid: Bellingham Could Be Out for Several Months Due to Injury
Jude Bellingham, one of Real Madrid’s brightest stars, has confirmed he will undergo surgery on his left shoulder after the Club World Cup. The procedure, meant to finally resolve an issue he’s been managing for over a year, could sideline the English midfielder for three to four months, according to Spanish media such as Onda Cero.
The news hit hard within the Madrid camp, especially following their 3-1 win over Pachuca, where Bellingham once again played a key role in orchestrating the midfield. Despite the team’s strong performance, the England international admitted he has reached the limit of his physical endurance.
"I'm worn out. I've played through pain for a long time, but I can't do it anymore," he said after the match in Charlotte. "I’ve been wearing a sling for months, losing weight due to the heat and effort. I’ll have surgery after the tournament. It’s been a long wait, but the time has come," he stated in a press conference.
Madrid loses its engine and Xabi Alonso must rebuild the midfield
This setback comes at a critical time for Real Madrid, who are already dealing with the long-term absence of Kylian Mbappé due to injury. Now, new head coach Xabi Alonso will have to find a solution without two of his most influential players for the start of next season.

Bellingham, who joined the club in 2023 from Borussia Dortmund, quickly established himself as a midfield leader. His vision, attacking presence, and work ethic were instrumental in Madrid’s Champions League and La Liga triumphs last season.
While the surgery is necessary, it also brings uncertainty to the club's early-season planning. The Englishman is expected to be out for 12 to 16 weeks, potentially missing the opening months of the 2025/26 campaign.
The club’s management is already working with the coaching staff to consider possible alternatives. Meanwhile, Madrid fans are hoping for a swift and complete recovery. Bellingham has given everything for the team—now the team must find a way to succeed without him.
