The Hilarious Joke Leo Messi Left Juan Musso in His Farewell

The Argentine left Juan Musso a message that was equal parts heartfelt and hilarious after his final match with the Albiceleste.

One final joke from Messi to Musso

Lionel Messi’s farewell with Argentina was filled with emotion, but there was still room for one final joke. Juan Musso shared the jersey he received from the captain after the match and revealed a message that quickly caught everyone’s attention.

“For Juan, with lots of affection. I’m going to miss scoring against you and watching you get mad,” Messi wrote on the shirt.

Musso’s response was much shorter, but just as meaningful: “Forever grateful.”

A rivalry built in training

The message perfectly summed up the relationship the two built during years together with the Argentina national team. Although Musso was never the first-choice goalkeeper, he spent years as part of the group led by Messi.

The goalkeeper earned four senior caps for the Albiceleste and was part of the squad that won the 2021 Copa America, one of the trophies that helped transform Argentina’s recent history.

Musso leaves with a one-of-a-kind keepsake

At 32, Musso now has a souvenir that will be difficult to top. The current Atletico Madrid goalkeeper shared a dressing room with Messi after spending much of his career in Italy, where he also represented Atalanta.

Beyond the matches they played together, Messi’s message offered a glimpse into the kind of stories that usually stay behind closed doors: training sessions, goals, competitive moments and jokes between two teammates who spent years together with Argentina.

The end of an era with Argentina

The dedication came after Messi’s final appearance for the Albiceleste, an emotional night at the Estadio Monumental. Argentina beat Benin 3-0, with Messi scoring from the penalty spot and providing two assists in front of more than 85,000 fans.

It brought the curtain down on an international career spanning 21 years, 208 appearances and 126 goals. And amid the tributes, applause and tears, Musso walked away with one of the most personal souvenirs of all: a signed shirt carrying one final playful jab from Messi.
