After Revealing He Is Messi’s Enemy, Ter Stegen Returns Hoping to Win Back Barcelona Fans
FC Barcelona held its final training session at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper this Friday before traveling to Madrid to face Leganés in Matchday 31 of LaLiga. The session featured several key moments, including the partial return of Dani Olmo, who trained briefly with the team, though his inclusion in the squad remains uncertain.
The midfielder joined his teammates for the first 15 minutes of the session, which was open to the media, but later continued with an individual training plan. Despite excitement over his recovery, it is unlikely that Hansi Flick will call him up for Saturday’s match. However, his return could come in the crucial Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund, or, in a more cautious scenario, against Celta de Vigo on April 19.
Meanwhile, the German coach continues to rely on Fermín López and Gavi as options for the midfield. With Fermín starting against Dortmund, all signs point to Gavi being in the starting lineup against Leganés.
Ter Stegen Returns Amid Messi Controversy
The return of Marc-André ter Stegen was another highlight of the session. The German goalkeeper, who recently sparked controversy by admitting he is not friends with Lionel Messi, is working hard to reclaim his spot in the starting XI. Having recovered from injury, he has already played in training matches, even ending up on the winning side in a practice game.
However, regaining his starting role will not be easy. Wojciech Szczęsny, who has become a key figure for the team, boasts 21 unbeaten matches and has played a crucial role in Barcelona’s impressive run. The team currently leads LaLiga by four points over Real Madrid, is a finalist in the Copa del Rey, and has one foot in the Champions League semifinals after a dominant 4-0 victory in the first leg of the quarterfinals.
The only absentees from the training session were Marc Bernal and Marc Casadó, both sidelined due to injuries. Casadó, recovering from a knee issue, hopes to return before the end of the season to contribute to the squad.
With several key players returning, Barcelona is entering a crucial month in its title pursuit, giving Flick more options to navigate the decisive stage of the season.
