Ancelotti on Facing Javier Aguirre: "Like Going to the Dentist... Very Painful!"
Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti highlighted Javier Aguirre as one of his closest friends in football. Despite their rivalry as opposing managers, the Italian wished the Mexican all the best in his new role as head coach of the Mexican National Team.
"We shared the World Cup in Russia, and it was a fantastic experience. Every time we face each other, even with the rivalry on the field, it's never easy because his teams always fight to the end. He's a great man and a great coach, and I’m sure he’ll do an excellent job with the national team," Ancelotti said.
During his visit to Mexico, as part of an event at the National Auditorium in front of 10,000 students supported by Fundación Telmex, Ancelotti fondly recalled his friendship with Aguirre, emphasizing the respect and camaraderie they've shared throughout their careers.
"I tell him, 'Playing against you is like going to the dentist, a terrible experience.' Mallorca was always a very tough opponent," Ancelotti joked about Aguirre.
During the event, a message from the Mexican National Team coach to Ancelotti was projected on the auditorium’s screens.
"Welcome to my country. I regret not being able to be with you, but I’ve found a new job. I would have loved to be there. There's so much we can learn from each other, especially your great humility. As a coach, I have immense respect for you, you're the best in terms of titles, but what really sets you apart is the humanity you show towards rivals, coaches, your children, and grandchildren. That makes you unique. You have a friend here, and I wish you the best and hope you enjoy your time in Mexico," Aguirre expressed.
