Flick: "No Excuses" Ahead of Barcelona's Busy March Schedule
Speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of the game against Real Sociedad, the German manager confirmed that squad rotations will be necessary to keep his players fresh.
Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick made it clear that his team has no room for excuses as they prepare for a packed schedule in March.
Key Rotations in Barcelona's Starting XI
"We will make changes. It's a good day to do it, but I won't say which ones. We will field fresh players," Flick stated. One of those adjustments is likely to be the return of defender Ronald Araújo to the starting lineup. Although the Uruguayan has struggled with injuries this season, the coach praised his leadership and defensive presence.
"In this position, we need four strong players. Andreas Christensen got injured in training, and we have to wait to see how serious it is. Ronald arrived with an injury, but he's doing well. He is a leader," the German coach explained.
Another potential change is the inclusion of midfielder Marc Casadó, who has seen his playing time reduced following the return of Frenkie de Jong. On this matter, Flick highlighted that the Dutchman "has improved a lot this month" and that his playing style allows the team "to have more possession and be more offensive," while Casadó is "more defensive."
Embracing the Challenge and Trusting the Team
The Barcelona manager made it clear that he will need his entire squad to navigate this critical month. "We can't choose; we have to accept it. We always focus on the next match and give our all. We knew March would come, and we knew we'd be competing in three tournaments. We are fighting for three titles," he emphasized.
Regarding Real Sociedad's visit, Flick pointed out that the team is in better form than during their first encounter, when they lost 1-0 in San Sebastián. "They are a great team; they defend well and have excellent players on the ball. We have to be ready, but we are not afraid of any opponent; we have respect," he stated.
Finally, the German coach, who celebrated his 60th birthday on Friday with his coaching staff and the club's sporting directors, said he has no further professional wishes. "I am healthy, I have a great family, and I am very happy to be here," he concluded.
