Iniesta Opens the Door to Returning to Barcelona
Former Barcelona midfielder Andrés Iniesta has acknowledged, during the event marking his retirement as a professional footballer, that he wishes to one day return to the Catalan club to contribute his extensive football experience in some capacity.
"I would like to return to Barça at some point in my life. I believe that those of us who have had such influence and have spent so many years at this club should, in one way or another, be part of it. When I feel that I can contribute what I did as a player in other roles, I would be delighted," he summarized.
Iniesta also admitted that his "idea" was to retire wearing the Barcelona jersey, "but Barça requires you to give 300 percent, and I felt that wasn't going to be possible," which is why he started a new professional chapter in Japan.
However, after hanging up his boots at 40, he has started "with the coaching course," perhaps to one day occupy the bench of his "life-long team," as he has described it, with which he won 32 titles.
"Now, I need to learn, make mistakes, and educate myself... We will keep seeing each other, with a lot of excitement and eagerness. It will be something connected to football because football is my life," he concluded.
