Mbappé’s Emotional Reaction After Red Card Against Alavés
Kylian Mbappé experienced a rare and emotional moment during Real Madrid’s 1-0 win over Deportivo Alavés, as he was sent off for the first time in LaLiga EA Sports following a dangerous tackle on Antonio Blanco, a former Real Madrid player now with Alavés.
The red card came in the 38th minute, after VAR review upgraded the initial yellow card issued by referee César Soto Grado.
Apologies in the dressing room
According to sources in the Madrid dressing room cited by EFE, Mbappé was visibly shaken by the incident and apologized immediately to his teammates and coaching staff upon returning to the locker room.
Fully aware of the recklessness of his challenge—driven by frustration over repeated fouls he had been receiving—Mbappé personally approached Blanco after the match to apologize. The Alavés midfielder reportedly accepted the apology, and no injury was sustained despite the strong contact.
The match report filed by referee Soto Grado read:
“Challenge with the studs up, striking an opponent on the shin during a ball contest, using excessive force.”
Awaiting disciplinary decision
The French striker is now awaiting a ruling from LaLiga’s Competition Committee, which will determine the length of the suspension—likely one to three matches depending on the interpretation of the foul.
Most indications suggest he will not miss the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona on April 26, though the official verdict is still pending.
This marks Mbappé’s fourth career red card, but his first as a Real Madrid player—an emotional episode that showed both his competitiveness and accountability.
