Mbappé's Injury: Carlo Ancelotti Clarifies When He Could Return to Play for Real Madrid
The Real Madrid coach addressed Kylian Mbappé's muscle injury and explained when he might be available to play.
Kylian Mbappé’s fitness has been the center of speculation following his premature exit during Real Madrid’s midweek clash against Atalanta in Bergamo. The club has now confirmed that the French forward has sustained a left thigh injury, sidelining him for at least seven days.
This diagnosis rules Mbappé out of Saturday’s La Liga match against Rayo Vallecano and casts doubt on his availability for the Intercontinental Cup final on December 18 in Doha, Qatar.
Ancelotti Provides Update
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti addressed Mbappé’s condition in the pre-match press conference ahead of the Rayo clash. “Kylian’s injury is not serious. He won’t play tomorrow, but he will travel to Qatar, and we’ll assess the risk there,” the Italian coach stated.
The medical staff is working to ensure Mbappé can feature in the prestigious final, though the club has made it clear they will prioritize the player’s long-term fitness. With the holiday break approaching, Real Madrid’s plan is to rest Mbappé, allowing him to return fully fit in the new year.
Should he miss the Intercontinental Cup final, Mbappé would have one more opportunity to feature this year—against Sevilla at the Santiago Bernabéu. This would give him a chance to bid farewell to Real Madrid fans before the winter pause.
Second Injury of the Season
This latest setback marks Mbappé’s second injury since joining Real Madrid four months ago. In September, he suffered a hamstring injury during a league match against Alavés, which kept him sidelined for three weeks. That absence forced him to miss key matches, including the derby against Atlético Madrid and a Champions League tie against Lille.
Mounting Injury Concerns for Real Madrid
Mbappé’s injury adds to an already concerning list of setbacks plaguing Real Madrid this season. Manager Carlo Ancelotti has been stretched thin, with key players such as Vinícius Jr. and Rodrygo only recently returning from their own injuries.
The recurring fitness issues have raised questions about the demands placed on the squad. Despite these challenges, Ancelotti remains optimistic about his team’s resilience and Mbappé’s timely recovery for crucial fixtures.
As Real Madrid prepares for a packed December schedule, all eyes will be on Doha to see if their French superstar can make a triumphant return in the Intercontinental Cup final.
