OFFICIAL: Barcelona's Young Star Out for a Year
Barcelona has announced that Marc Bernal has undergone surgery after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament and external meniscus injury in his left knee. The operation, performed by Dr. Joan Carles Monllau under the supervision of the club’s medical staff, was successful. According to the official statement, the estimated recovery time is 12 months.
Bernal, 17, shone during preseason and made his official debut in Barça's victory over Valencia. Unfortunately, he was injured in the final minutes of the 2-1 win against Rayo Vallecano, after having featured in the first three LaLiga matches under Hansi Flick. His passing accuracy, at 92.5%, was the highest among players who have completed more than 100 passes this season.
“It’s a bittersweet victory. Bernal played an incredible game, and now we’ll lose him for some time,” said Flick, visibly affected after the match at Vallecas.
Barça continues its perfect start to the 2024-2025 season and currently leads the competition, four points ahead of Real Madrid.
