Paul Pogba Wants to Convince Antoine Griezmann to Return to The French National Team
With a month and a half left before his suspension ends, the French midfielder hopes to return to the French national team, particularly to play alongside his Atlético de Madrid teammate once again.
Paul Pogba is on the verge of becoming a professional footballer again. Starting in March, his four-year suspension, issued after testing positive for testosterone and later reduced to 18 months on appeal, will come to an end, allowing him to compete at the highest level once more.
In search of a club willing to trust him and give him the chance to restart his career, the player born in Lagny-sur-Marne is showing great ambition. While he dreams of returning to the Champions League, he also longs to wear the French jersey again as soon as possible. "I miss the French national team. I miss football matches; I miss playing," he admitted during an interview with streamer AmineMaTue on Twitch.
He promised to call Griezmann
Debuting for the national team on March 22, 2013, at the age of 20, Paul Pogba developed a strong connection with the tricolor jersey, which he wore 91 times, playing a pivotal role in the team that won the 2018 World Cup. Excelling in midfield, he even scored in the final in Moscow. However, he hasn’t featured for the team since March 29, 2022. Pogba knows that a comeback is possible, especially as Didier Deschamps has always valued him and provided support, particularly during the difficult times of recent months.
Although his return to Clairefontaine seems likely, Pogba has a specific wish: to reunite with Antoine Griezmann. "If I come back, I’ll call him straight away. I’ll say: ‘Come on, return’," he said with a smile. However, this wish seems difficult to fulfill, as the Atlético de Madrid forward announced his international retirement at the start of the season, believing his time with the national team was over. Griezmann was reportedly affected by his experience during Euro 2024, where he was frequently shifted between positions, and by the coach’s decision to give the captain's armband to Kylian Mbappé instead of him.
While he waits to vie for a spot in the national team and potentially convince Griezmann to return as well, Paul Pogba is focused on regaining his top form on the pitch. His next chapter is yet to be written.
