Pedri Doesn’t Think Barcelona Can Thrash Real Madrid Again
Barcelona midfielder Pedro González ‘Pedri’ admitted this Saturday that it’ll be tough to repeat the 4-0 league win over Real Madrid in the Supercopa de España final. The young Canary Islander emphasized that dominating the game and keeping an eye on Madrid’s counterattacks will be crucial to lifting the trophy.
Motivation and Game Plan for the Final
Speaking at a press conference from the training facility near the King Abdullah Stadium in Jeddah, where the final will be played this Sunday, Pedri said the team is highly motivated: “Playing a final against Madrid motivates any player. I see the squad really fired up.”
The midfielder highlighted the need to contain the counterattacks from Carlo Ancelotti’s side, pointing out their fast players who can turn the game around in an instant. He also expressed satisfaction with his own performance under Hansi Flick and his role in the tactical setup: “I feel really comfortable playing as a number 8. This high-press, quick-recovery style suits me perfectly.”
Looking Ahead with Confidence
Regarding his contract with Barcelona, which runs until 2026, Pedri urged calm: “My agents and the club have told me everything’s in order. Right now, I’m focused on winning the final.”
He also welcomed the addition of Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor after their registration issues were resolved, calling it “great news” for the team. Lastly, he dismissed rumors that Barça players would refuse to play for the Spanish national team: “That’s a lie. We’d never say no to representing Spain.”
With the focus now on the clash against their eternal rivals, Pedri stressed that the internal competition in the squad, with two players for every position, is key to maintaining the team’s level and fighting for trophies.
