The Millions "Kun" Agüero Is Claiming from Barcelona
The relationship between FC Barcelona and Sergio "Kun" Agüero ended abruptly, much sooner than expected by both parties, after an unexpected cardiac issue during a match against Alavés led him to make the difficult decision to retire from professional football.
Agüero had signed for two seasons with the Catalan club, motivated by the possibility of playing alongside his compatriot Leo Messi. However, upon departing, he chose to forgo payment for the second year of his contract, insisting on receiving only the salary for the first season, which, although brief, saw him participate in several matches. Barcelona and its then director of football, Mateu Alemany, accepted this compensation through the players' insurance.
The conflict arose when the insurer refused to cover the three million euros in question, claiming the medical condition was pre-existing before his signing. Agüero's representatives refute this claim, maintaining that the arrhythmia he experienced with Barcelona was different from any previous and already resolved issue.
With the insurer's denial, Barcelona did not provide the agreed payment to Agüero, prompting him to seek a legal resolution. The Argentine has filed a lawsuit against the Catalan club, seeking a court order to enforce payment. However, his preference is to reach an out-of-court settlement, even willing to establish an extended payment schedule over a period of up to five years.
Agüero, known not only for his talent on the field but also for his desire to avoid unnecessary conflicts, hopes to close this chapter amicably. So far, legal proceedings have not begun, as his intention is to resolve the situation without drawing too much media attention.
