The players Barcelona is targeting
Barcelona, under the management of Hansi Flick, leads LaLiga, and the fans are more excited than ever after the first few months of the season. The team's strong performance has reignited hopes of winning titles again after a trophyless campaign. Despite this initial success, the club is also focused on long-term planning, particularly in contract renewals and squad reinforcements for next season.
Several key players, including Pedri, Gavi, Araujo, and De Jong, have contracts expiring in June 2026, which has put the club's management on alert, preparing for any potential difficulties in the renewal process. Additionally, Barcelona is eyeing the transfer market for players who could arrive on free transfers. Among the standout names is Bayer Leverkusen’s center-back Jonathan Tah, who has already rejected a contract renewal with the German club. The German defender, who worked with Flick during their time in the national team, is a priority target for Barça’s defense.
At left-back, Alejandro Balde is the undisputed starter, but the club is seeking competition. Reinildo Mandava from Atlético Madrid and Alphonso Davies from Bayern Munich are both on the radar, with the latter being a particularly attractive option due to his relationship with Flick, who coached him during their successful stint at Bayern.
Another area to strengthen is the attack, as Robert Lewandowski, if he extends his contract, would start the 2025-26 season at 37 years old. Vitor Roque is on loan at Betis to gain experience, but Barcelona is still exploring alternatives, with Canadian forward Jonathan David, currently at Lille, being one of the favorites. Despite interest from PSG, the striker has expressed his desire to wear the Barcelona jersey.
Barcelona will have to wait until January to negotiate with any players, but the sporting management already has a clear set of priorities for the future.
