Barbastro 0-4 Barcelona: Lewandowski double seals Copa del Rey progress
Robert Lewandowski was on target twice as Barcelona eased into the last 16 of the Copa del Rey with a 4-0 win over Barbastro.
Robert Lewandowski bagged a double as Barcelona defeated fourth-division side Barbastro 4-0 to reach the last 16 of the Copa del Rey on Saturday.
Lewandowski, who netted the winner when these teams met at the same stage last season, scored either side of the break for the visitors, who also had Eric Garcia and Pablo Torre on the scoresheet.
Against the Aragonian club that sit in the relegation zone of Group Two of the Segunda Federacion, defender Garcia headed Barca in front from a Ronald Araujo cross in the 21st minute.
Lewandowski then nodded home a Torre cross from close range to double his side's advantage 10 minutes later.
The Poland striker added a third goal for Hansi Flick's side only two minutes into the second half with a simple low finish from near the penalty spot after being found by 21-year-old Torre again.
Torre added a goal to his two assists when he capitalised on an error from Barbastro goalkeeper Arnau Fabrega and sealed an emphatic victory to start 2025.
Barcelona's 2023-24 cup run ended in the quarter-finals, when they were beaten 4-2 after extra-time by eventual winners Athletic Bilbao.
Data Debrief: Barca make merry in Barbastro
This was the second consecutive season in which these two sides met in the round of 32 of the Copa del Rey, but it was a much straightforward win for the visitors this time than the last.
In the 2023-24 campaign, hosts Barbastro scored twice in a 3-2 defeat, with Lewandowski's 88th-minute penalty proving to decisive last time around.
But Flick's side hardly gave the fourth division team a look-in this time out, as the minnows only had two attempts.
Barca, meanwhile, registered 19 shots, of which nine were on target, and finished with an xG of 2.91 to Barbastro's 0.06.
