Barcelona Rules Out a Move for Rodri This Summer
Despite recent speculation linking Rodri Hernández with several of Europe's biggest clubs, FC Barcelona has no plans to pursue the Spanish midfielder during the current transfer window.
According to MARCA, sporting director Deco and head coach Hansi Flick believe the squad is already well-stocked in midfield, meaning the club's priorities lie elsewhere before the transfer window closes.
Midfield Is Not Barcelona's Priority
The injury to Frenkie de Jong sparked debate among supporters over whether Barcelona should strengthen its midfield. Inside the club, however, the situation is viewed differently.
According to MARCA, both Hansi Flick and Deco have complete confidence in the players already available to fill the different midfield roles.
That confidence is also shaping the club's transfer strategy. The same report indicates that Marc Casadó could seek regular playing time elsewhere this summer, as the coaching staff believes there is already strong competition for places in midfield.
Although players such as Rodri Hernández have recently been linked with the Catalan club, the sporting department has no intention of making such a significant investment in a position it considers fully covered.
The Price Is Another Major Obstacle
Financial considerations are another key reason why a move for the Spain international appears highly unlikely.
According to MARCA, a deal for Rodri could cost around €70 million, a fee that Barcelona does not consider justifiable at this stage, especially since the objective would only be to cover Frenkie de Jong's absence during his recovery rather than replace him permanently.
The club also remains committed to a disciplined financial strategy, meaning any major investment must address a genuine priority within the squad.
Attack Remains the Main Focus
Barcelona's transfer strategy is centered on strengthening other areas of the team.
According to MARCA, both Deco and Hansi Flick believe the squad's biggest needs are in attack and, to a lesser extent, in defense. As a result, investing close to €70 million in a midfielder is simply not part of the club's current plans.
In recent weeks, Barcelona has also been linked with Azzedine Ounahi, who represents a more affordable option with a different playing profile than Rodri. While the Moroccan international stands out for his mobility, dribbling ability, and line-breaking runs, the Spain World Cup winner is a more positional midfielder, excelling at ball recovery, controlling possession, and dictating play from deep.
Beyond the financial aspect, MARCA also reports that Barcelona believes Real Madrid would be the most likely destination if Rodri were to leave his current club in the future, making the operation even more complicated.
For now, everything points toward Barcelona placing its trust in the players already on the roster while focusing its efforts on reinforcing other positions before the start of the new season.
