Rayo Vallecano’s Big Gesture for the Kids Who Wanted Barcelona Shirts
Rayo Vallecano is working to track down the children who missed out on Barça shirts at Vallecas and give them that special memory.
The Incident That Went Viral
The clash between Rayo Vallecano and FC Barcelona at Vallecas produced one of the most talked-about moments of the season’s early weeks. At the end of the game, as several Barça players —including Fermín, De Jong, Balde and Marc Casadó— approached to hand their shirts to children in the stands, a voice rang out from the Bukaneros section: “Here in the Vallecas end we don’t give away shirts, out, out… if you hand it over, we’ll take it away.”
Faced with the threat, the players decided to return to the dressing room, leaving the kids without the keepsake they had been eagerly waiting for. Cameras from El Día Después captured the moment, which quickly went viral and caused widespread outrage.
Rayo’s Reaction
According to MARCA and Radio MARCA, the Madrid club has been working in recent days to locate the children who were left without shirts, with the goal of giving them the jerseys directly. At the same time, the club’s legal team is reviewing footage to identify the individual who prevented the players from carrying out the gesture.
Club president Raúl Martín Presa also addressed the matter: “It was a disgraceful image. Two Barça players wanted to kindly and warmly give shirts to children. We’ve all been kids, and receiving a shirt from a player of that level is something wonderful. It must be made clear that the people of Vallecas are not like this.”
Between Controversy and Repair
Although the episode cast a shadow over the night at Vallecas, Rayo Vallecano’s effort to make amends sends a positive message. Finding the children and handing them the shirts would be a reparative gesture to restore the joy of those innocent protagonists caught in such an unfortunate scene.
