Arsenal’s Real Target

All summer long, there was talk about Arsenal’s interest in Rodrygo Goes, but according to Fabrizio Romano, the London club’s real priority was another Real Madrid player. That player was Arda Güler, the 20-year-old Turkish playmaker who had seen little action during the final stretch of Carlo Ancelotti’s tenure.

Arsenal spotted an opportunity and wanted to take advantage of his lack of minutes to bring him to the Premier League. However, the move never materialized.

Xabi Alonso Puts on the Brakes

The arrival of Xabi Alonso at the Bernabéu changed the scenario completely. The Basque coach trusted Güler and handed him an important role in midfield, effectively shutting down any approach from Arsenal. With more minutes and responsibility, the Turkish star was no longer seen as a realistic option to leave immediately.

Still, the English press reports that things could reopen in January. The return of Jude Bellingham and the rise of youngster Franco Mastantuono could reduce Güler’s playing time, potentially reviving interest from abroad.

A New Premier League Opportunity?

While Real Madrid continue to bet on Güler’s talent, Premier League clubs — including Arsenal — are keeping an eye on his situation. If he loses relevance again, the temptation to begin a new adventure in England this winter cannot be ruled out.
