Real Madrid welcomes FIFA's decision to drop World Cup commercial rights plan
Real Madrid has welcomed FIFA's decision to abandon its proposal to partially sell the commercial rights to its competitions, describing the move as "good news" for football.
Real Madrid has welcomed FIFA's decision to abandon its proposal to partially sell the commercial rights to its competitions, describing the move as "good news" for football.
In an official statement, the Spanish club also thanked UEFA, the continental confederations, national associations and other football institutions that opposed the project.
What did Real Madrid say?
The club argued that the unity shown by football's governing bodies played a key role in preventing the proposal from moving forward.
"Their unity and sense of duty have protected football at a decisive moment. Our club considers this to be good news for football, its institutions and, above all, for the millions of fans of our beloved sport," Real Madrid said.

Why was Real Madrid against the proposal?
Real Madrid argued that national team competitions and the FIFA World Cup are part of football's heritage and should never be treated as financial assets.
The club also emphasized that professional clubs are the foundation of international football because they discover, develop and prepare the players who represent their national teams.
In addition, Real Madrid reiterated its opposition to any initiative that seeks to monetize future competition revenues without assuming the costs and risks that clubs bear.
The precedent cited by the club
The Spanish giants also recalled that they opposed the agreement through which LaLiga committed part of clubs' future audiovisual revenues in exchange for investment from CVC Capital Partners.
According to Real Madrid, committing future revenues for such a long period sets a precedent that football should avoid, both domestically and internationally.
