The reason behind Julián Álvarez's stance

According to Brunatti, some members of Julián's family faced restrictions on how long they could remain in the United Kingdom while he was playing for Manchester City.

“The residence permits of some family members expired after around two years,” Brunatti explained, citing his parents as an example. They would then have to leave the country or find another immigration route.

His partner's situation was different because UK immigration rules allow partners of eligible workers to obtain dependent status. The bigger issue was keeping his extended family around him, something Julián values in his day-to-day life.

Why staying in Spain makes a difference

The situation is different in Spain, where several residency and family reunification routes can make it easier for relatives to remain in the country, depending on their nationality and individual circumstances.

That has allowed Julián Álvarez to have the family environment he wants while playing for Atlético Madrid. A return to England would potentially mean dealing with some of the same logistical problems his family encountered during his years in Manchester.

So while his desire to remain in Spain has obvious sporting reasons, there is also a very personal one behind it.
