Ander Herrera's First Words as a Boca Juniors Player
Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera has landed in Buenos Aires to join Boca Juniors, following the termination of his contract with Athletic Club. At 35, Herrera was greeted by over 100 ecstatic ‘xeneize’ fans and several media outlets, expressing his excitement for this fresh start. “I’m thrilled. It’s time to adapt and enjoy this one-of-a-kind experience. All I’m focused on is Boca,” Herrera shared upon arrival.
High Expectations and Connection with Riquelme
The former Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, and Athletic Club star confirmed he’s already been in touch with Juan Román Riquelme, saying: “I don’t want to think too far ahead; my focus is getting fit and preparing for next week’s Copa match. I’m also looking forward to meeting Fernando Gago (head coach) today.”
Herrera highlighted his excitement about joining a club steeped in history: “My father worked here for a long time and always talked about Boca. Playing here is special—it gives you goosebumps. Now, it’s time to enjoy the moment.”
A Dream Come True
According to club insiders, Herrera arrives as a free agent after negotiating an early release from his Athletic Club contract, six months before its original expiration. This move allows him to fulfill his long-standing dream of donning the Argentine team’s jersey—a wish he’d expressed previously.
Having already visited La Bombonera and declared his love for Boca Juniors, Herrera follows in the footsteps of fellow Spaniard Iker Muniain, who joined San Lorenzo last year. Now, Herrera faces the challenge of integrating into a squad set to represent Argentina at the Club World Cup this June.
