Gerónimo Rulli Joins Olympique de Marseille!
Olympique de Marseille announced on Sunday the signing of Argentine international goalkeeper Gerónimo Rulli from Ajax Amsterdam, where he played last season. The club has not specified the duration or amount of the contract.
In a statement, the French club welcomed Rulli, who is expected to become the starting goalkeeper following the departure of Pau López, who previously held that position.
Rulli, 32, began his career at his hometown club, Estudiantes de La Plata, in Argentina, starting his professional career in April 2013 at the age of 20.
The following year, he moved to Europe, specifically to Spain, where he signed with Real Sociedad. During his time with the Basque team, he played 180 matches and caught the attention of Argentine national team coach Lionel Scaloni. His international debut came in September 2018.
In the summer of 2019, he signed with Montpellier, where he played 28 matches. A year later, he returned to Spain with Villarreal, winning the Europa League and playing a crucial role by saving a decisive penalty against Manchester United in the final.
A year ago, Rulli moved to Ajax Amsterdam, where he has played 28 matches.
With the Argentine national team, Rulli has achieved significant successes, including the 2022 World Cup, the 2022 Finalissima, and the 2024 Copa América. He will be joined in Marseille by Valentín Carboni, who arrives from Inter Milan, with his contract with the French club announced earlier this week.
