Luis Enrique Praised by a Barcelona Legend
Former teammate of Luis Enrique at FC Barcelona, Rivaldo, has expressed his admiration for the current coach of Paris Saint-Germain.
Although Luis Enrique is now recognized as one of the most prominent football managers in the world, his career as a player was equally remarkable. Before taking his place on the sidelines, Luis Enrique had an extensive and successful trajectory as a midfielder. As a Spanish international, he stood out for his versatility, his ability to orchestrate the game, and his undeniable leadership. From his debut in 1989 to his retirement in 2004, he left his mark on teams like Girona, Real Madrid, and FC Barcelona.
Rivaldo, winner of the Ballon d’Or in 1999, shared the locker room with Luis Enrique at Barcelona between 1997 and 2002, a period during which the Brazilian scored 130 goals in 234 matches wearing the Blaugrana shirt. In statements reported by Foot Mercato, Rivaldo did not hold back on his praise for his former teammate: “He has been a champion multiple times and has achieved great success. He has all my support because, besides being a great player, he is an incredible person and an excellent coach.”
The Brazilian also admitted that, although he always admired Luis Enrique’s qualities as a player, he did not expect him to become a coach: “I never imagined he would become a manager, but he made the right choice because his warrior-like characteristics, among other things, gave him what was needed to succeed. And he’s done very well,” added the 2002 World Cup champion.
Luis Enrique, surely honored by Rivaldo’s words, will aim to continue justifying such praise this Wednesday when Paris Saint-Germain faces Espaly (N3) in the French Cup Round of 32.
